I bought Video journal for my daughter last year, but due to computer problems she has only just got it out of the box.
We have installed the software on her laptop without problems, but when she tries to create her login it comes up with an error message, along the lines of "User creation failed. Please make sure user name doesnt contain special characters like )( -/"
Her username doesnt, neither does her password, she has tried different things for both but still the same message! Anyone know what to do?????

If you are running XP, she will need Admin rights to run the program...at least that is what I had to do...Restricted user, no workie.. Thanks GirlTech/Mattell/Radica...that is strike 2...No Vista drivers, no restricted user for XP...What's next, the camera just melts into lump of poo..?

Just been through the same process for my daughter but have a better solution than granting admin rights to a 7 year old. If you right click on the video journal program and set the "compatibility mode" to Windows 2000 it seems to work properly.
The VJ was a gift and I have to say so far I'm not hugely impressed, not so much with the product (though the camera itself is a bit cheap and tacky) but the almost complete lack of support. A call to the US number (not cheap from overseas) says that help can be found online. Go online and the webite has virtually nothing about the product and the only means of getting help with it is, you've guessed it, to phone.
Come on, how hard is it to get a decent FAQ posted? There must be more than 3 people who've installed this on XP, its not like its a rare "corner case"?

That happen with another online toy of mine.It did that because of the fact that alot of people have already registered with a journal toy like that I guess. After that the new toy for Christmas [that I begged my parents for]Was just a dumb knick-knack.I`m just a kid,but still,if you had gotten her the DS it won`t be so bad.
