DIGI MAKEOVER™
What's the difference between the Digi Glam Makeover sold at Toys R Us and the Digi Makeover?
The basic unit sold at Toys R Us is the same as the one sold at other retailers. However, Toys R Us has an exclusive product that also includes hair clips, hair extensions (little twisted pieces), lip gloss, a mirror, and a comb.
I've seen two of these units, one says ages 6 and up, the other ages 8 and up.
There was a misprint on a small quantity of packages at the beginning of production. All Digi Makeover units are suitable for ages 6 & up.
If I buy a Digi Makeover in the US, will it work overseas?
Digi Makeover units sold in the US work only with NTSC TV's. Most European countries, including the UK, utilize the PAL system. Digi Makeover units that are compatible with PAL are not available in the US but are available in some other countries. Makeover is not available in SECAM.
Is there an NTSC/PAL adapter or converter that I can buy?
There is an adapter that can be purchased for a NTSC to PAL conversion, but the unit costs between $150 and $250 USD at electronic specialty stores.
PASSWORD JOURNAL®
The journal doesn't recognize anything I say.
You need to make sure you are in a quiet room, make sure the password being set isn't longer than 1-2 syllables, and make sure it is being said the same exact way (avoid fluctuation) every time. Once the password is set, those same three variables need to be accounted for any time you want to open the box. If you have an older version of Password Journal with a security switch, make sure that the security switch (located on the inside of the unit) is set on 'low'. If it is on 'high' security the game is very sensitive and can be difficult to open.
The journal will not open after it says "Password Accepted".
Reset the unit and re-enter your password.
The journal door will not stay closed.
Reset the unit and re-enter your password. If this does not solve the problem, replace the batteries.
Why will the door no longer close?
Sometimes the door will not close because the latch mechanism is out of sequence. Press the reset button in the battery compartment and set a new password. Change the batteries and repeat if this does not solve the problem.
There is no pen with my journal, but one is pictured on the packaging.
Some models have pens included but most do not. If you have the Password Journal 4 (Model 75015) it does not have a pen included and the package indicates that the pen is sold separately. You can use any writing utensil (i.e. pen, pencil, crayon, marker, etc) to write on the pad inside.
How do I set the password?
Be sure there is no background noise such as a TV or radio playing. Hold the microphone about 6 inches from mouth your mouth. Use a word that can be easily repeated the same way. Speak in a normal conversational tone. (Don't whisper or yell). Note: If you have an older model and are having trouble setting a password, be sure the sensitivity switch is set on "Low".
I have lost my key to the PW Journal (9922) or PW Notes (8013). Can I get another one?
Some keys are still available. Determine the key number by opening the battery department and call us at 1-800-803-9611 or contact us at service.mattel.com.
I can't get the battery door off of my unit.
Be sure you have completely unscrewed the screw. If the screw head is stripped, use a larger size Phillips screwdriver to remove it. If the screw is over tightened, have an adult open it with a power screwdriver.
Where can I find replacement journals for my unit?
Replacement journals are not currently sold, but you should be able to find one at an office/school supply store.
I can hardly understand what the voice on the Password Journal is saying.
This is usually a result of low batteries, so change the batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries and you should change all of them at the same time.
If I want to change my password, what do I do?
Press the 'reset' button that is inside the battery compartment and follow the prompts.
The light on the journal no longer works. Are replacement bulbs available?
The bulbs are not replaceable. If your unit is under warranty, please contact us at 1-800-803-9611 or service.mattel.com.
My journal is accepting my password but the door will not open.
Press the "reset button" inside the battery box and reset your password. If that does not correct the problem, change the batteries.
The unit accepted my password, but now when I try to get back into the unit with the access button it will not accept my password.
Be sure you are using the same password and saying it the same way as when you recorded it. If you still have trouble, reset the unit and record a new password. Change the batteries if that does not work.
The access light will not turn off.
This may be a result of low batteries. Replace all of the batteries (we recommend alkaline).
The journal does not respond when I press the reset button.
Make sure the "reset" button is being fully depressed. If the problem persists, install new batteries.
Can I set my Password Journal so I do not have to use a password to open it?
Password Journal 4 and Password Journal Show & Glow will open without a password. Press the reset button to perform the setup. During setup, do not enter a password or make any sound when prompted. You will then be able to open the door by simply pressing the "Access" button.
After I say yes to changing the password/date/time the unit says "ok" and will not prompt any further.
Try resetting the unit.
When setting the date should I say the months name or its numeric calendar value?
You can use either but it will work better if you say the month's name, i.e. 'November' instead of 'eleven'.
The unit keeps giving me the wrong number when I'm setting the time/date.
Make sure the unit has fresh batteries installed. Be sure to perform the setup in a quiet environment.Speak the words at a moderate speed and as distinctly as you can.
JAM 'N SHRED™ PEN
The radio does not work.
Be sure that the battery is installed properly (+ side is up) and that your battery has sufficient charge. If the battery is exhausted, replace it with a new CR2032 button cell.
Where can I buy a replacement cartridge for my pen?
Please contact us at 1-800-803-9611 - M-F - 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Saturday 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST or service.mattel.com.
The radio will only receive one or two channels.
The radio is an FM receiver and will receive most channels that broadcast in your area. If you are in an area where FM stations are distant, the number of channels you receive will be small. Move the radio to an area close to a window or opening to receive more signals. Also check your battery and replace it with a new CR032 button cell if necessary.
There is static when I listen to the radio.
Static can result when the signal is weak or the battery needs to be replaced. Move the radio to an area close to a window or opening. Replace the battery with a new CR2032 button cell if necessary.
PASSWORD PUPPIES™
My puppy does not appear when I call his/her name.
Make sure you wait till the green light is on after you press the "Call" button before you call the puppy's name. Speak directly into the microphone and increase the volume of your voice if he/she does not respond. If there is still no response, press reset and refer to the instruction manual on naming your pet. Check the batteries and install new ones (we recommend alkaline) if necessary.
There is no sound or the sound coming from the unit is faint.
Be sure the volume is set properly. There are three volume settings (Off, Low & Hi) and if the sound is still faint after setting on "Hi", check the batteries and install new ones if necessary.
My puppy does not grow up.
You must complete all of the required tasks within the allotted time in order for the puppy to move to the next stage. Check the instruction manual and the back of the unit for details.
